Quake II Performance Tweaking
Demo used : demo2.dm2
Commands :
- viewsize (50 or 60 is recommended,)
(40 = +4.6fps)
(50 = +3.6fps)
(60 = +2.8fps)
shrinking the size of the game's screen increases performance
significantly but it does tend to make it look like the size of a
GameBoy's screen.
- cl_particles 0 (+0.2fps)
This disables the particles, in favor of a very minor performance
boost. However the Railgun trails won't appear, so keep that in mind.
It is a matter of preference at that point.
- cl_lights 0 (+0.7fps)
This disables dynamic lighting , in favor of a minor performance boost.
combining this with disabling particles results in nearly getting an
extra frame per second.
- Changing the handedness to center in Multiplayer menu (+1.5fps)
This disables the weapon view models , in favor of a minor performance
boost.
- sw_mipcap 3 (+0.8fps)
This will make the textures even more pixelated and chunky, again in
favor of minor performance boost.
- cl_blend 0 (+0.4fps)
Turns off the palette blending effect used while being injured, using
powerup, or being underwater.
- r_fullbright 1 (+0.6fps)
Turns off the lighting entirely, making the game look more uglier in
favor of a minor performance boost.
- r_lerpmodels 0 (+0.4fps)
Turns off the prediction of model movement, in favor of a very minor
performance boost.
- sw_drawflat 1 (+2.6fps)
Removes textures from the map resulting in a rainbow mess in favor of a
performance boost, Again this one is a matter of preference.
